How do I save a C++ File?

Ok so I was trying to save a C++ thing I made and when I saved it I saved it as .c++ [it was recomened by the program I was using] but when I opened it it didn't show the simple code I wrote, instead it showed the code itself. now I am just starting C++ so I don't know much but what file type would I save it as?

How do I save a C++ File?
The file extension for C++ files is generally .cpp for Dev-C++, though .c++ should work.

What do you mean by "the code itself?" What you typed in probably is the actual code.

Dev-C++ is completely free; you can just download the full version.
